Last weekend Paul and I drove up to Rainbow City Alabama to visit his wonderful parents Nancy and Tony. While we were there we went to this quirky little festival called Homestead Hollow. It's pretty much a big craft fair but we had a great time.
Ever since I've known Paul he has told me about Homestead Hollow and he goes on and on about the Fried Pies. Fried Pies this and Fried Pies that. Even on the drive up I would see him deep in thought behind the drivers wheel and ask him what he was thinking about...he would respond "Mmmm....Fried Pies..."
We had a lot of fun playing games, watching different demonstrations (they even had someone there making moonshine! You could smell....but you couldn't taste...) shopping and just spending precious time with Paul's Parents.
But....by FAR the best thing about Homestead Hollow was the food!
This corn....I kid you not, it was the greatest thing ever. They were roasting the ears in their shucks on an open fire. When you ordered one they shucked it for you and then dipped it in a vat of melted butter. You then had this huge tray of different toppings you could ad to the corn. I stuck with the classic salt and pepper
And finally...Paul got his Fried Pie. The first of many. They are pretty much just some sort of filling folded into a pie crust and fried. Pretty self explanatory. But we had a great time trying the different flavors. Cocoanut, Peach, Chocolate, Apple, Sweet Potato...the list goes on...
That's right....those are bags, all full of Fried Pies.
It was a perfect, beautiful fall day and I can't wait to go back again next year!
